Golf is trying to take a page from the Whole Foods playbook and convince us golfers that "earth-friendly courses" with worse conditions and higher green fees are the noble, righteous play.

With views that never stop, the Canadian Rockies are one of the most stunning areas of Canada, and there's also great golf to be found there. In the "TravelGolf.com This Week" podcast, host Dave Berner talks to Gordon Schultz of golf packager Golf Canada's West about the sweeping elevation changes and stunning backdrops that make for world-class golf in the Canadian Rockies.
Predator Ridge Golf Resort, some 35 minutes from Kelowna, in British Columbia's Okanagan region, brings upscale polish to a most unexpected location. The long, winding road up to the resort offers a hint of its remoteness. Predator Ridge is its own little world, but that doesn't mean that world is limited. There are 27 holes of golf, a spa and pool, and plenty of golf real estate. You can pack a lot into an off-the-beaten-path location, it seems.
Gallagher's Canyon Golf & Country Club in Kelowna, B.C., is one of those rare blends of scenic and playable holes. The course has a little of everything, including several holes you won't soon forget. And with the clocks in its clubhouse set to Augusta National, Pebble Beach and St. Andrews, it's also a place with a reverence for golf history - and, more importantly, for golfers. It's a definite 'must play' in the golf-rich Okanagan area of British Columbia.
The Quail at Okanagan Golf Club in Kelowna, B.C., is a golf course that will test your accuracy, your nerve and your good humor – especially the latter. With its tight, tree-lined fairways, the Quail is the narrowest golf course in the area, and arguably the toughest. Canadian architect Les Furber will make you sweat over these 6,794 yards, but he also leaves you a good share of rewards. Bottom line: you'll be happy you played the Quail.
Vancouver Island is as much a blissful getaway as any tropical paradise and for golfers, there's no better way to discover this temperate Pacific destination than the Vancouver Island Golf Trail. From Jack Nicklaus' famed Bear Mountain in Victoria to the Crowne Isle golf resort, the Vancouver Island Golf Trail is a tranquil getaway to great golf courses and British Columbia beauty. And with most greens fees under $75, it won't put a strain on your wallet.
Golf came relatively late to Prince Edward Island, but the 140-mile-long reddish freckle on the face of the Atlantic made up for lost time and now offers a couple of dozen courses. And between games, you would be remiss if you didn't make a glutton of yourself at one of the island's famed lobster suppers. Join John Gordon as he takes a special look at this underrated golf destination, complete with his top course recommendations.
